Hi All,

This is my first post here. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice.

I'm trying to install onto a Powermac 8500 using a 1.4 PPC LiveCD. I have the typical small HFS partition and can successfully boot into the install environment with bootX.

The problem: /dev/sda and /dev/sdb (I have two scsi drives in the machine) are missing. Everything looks normal in dmesg (the drives show up) and the scsi cdrom drive successfully mounts, but no scsi hard drive device files. I know the hardware is working because I can see the disks in OS9 and have also been able to install a working Yellowdog system.

Any ideas?

best regards,
Mark

Yes, the installer is lacking the necessary support for SCSI drives. I ran into the same problem with my 8500 back in January. There is a new live CD available, hopefully that problem has been fixed, but I can't confirm it. What I did was download an older live CD, v1.2 rc2, I think. That worked just fine. Afterwards, you can emerge world, to bring yourself up to date.

Thanks folks for your responses. I've stumbled over the same solution as lazloman -- live CD, v1.2 corrects the problem.
