I've seen some people using a emerge gui just for finding out what some useflags does. There is no need for this. This is a simple alias that finds out what both "global" useflags and useflags that are specific to certain packages does (put in .bashrc):

Code:
alias useinfo="cat /usr/portage/profiles/use*desc | grep -i"

example output:

(global useflag)
Code:

laptop tpwch # useinfo ipv6
ipv6 - Adds support for IP version 6

(local useflag)
Code:

laptop tpwch # useinfo minimal
app-editors/vim:minimal - Build vim with minimal features, resulting in a ~430K binary

minimal [-] [ ] [L] [app-editors/vim] : Build vim with minimal features,
                    resulting in a ~430K binary

Code:

# useinfo amd
amd64 - indicates that architecture is AMD64
net-fs/shfs:amd - Enable automounter support

Code:

 # euse -i amd
amd [-] [ ] [L] [net-fs/shfs] : Enable automounter support

The difference :)
..but you could also use ufed (emerge ufed).
