Hey, guys. I'm running the 2.6.4 ppc kernel, and although I built HFS and HFS+ r/w filesystem support into my kernel, I can't mount any HFS/+ drive with write enabled, only read.

When I plug in my ipod, i make sure all the proper firewire modules are autoloaded, them mount it to /dev/fw. Even when I pass
Code:
mount -o w -t hfsplus /dev/sda3 /mnt/fw
, it is still mounted read-only without any errors, until I try to write to it.

I've had this problem since I've started using gentoo 1.4 several months ago, and I thought it would be solved with the kernel upgrades -- anyone else have this problem?

I get this too, but only on firewire devices (iPod & external drive) using the sbp2 module. My OS X partition works fine in Linux (read and write), but I can't make it write to my iPod or LaCie d2 drive.

Odd really.

(I use 2.6.2 as it's the only one I don't have rivafb problems with)

Also, I have an external firewire drive formatted in ext2, and I can use that fine. Maybe there's a problem with firewire in conjunction with the experimental hfs/+ code.

Sometimes the HFS+ driver has problems mounting with write access, I've had the same problem even with non-firewire drives.

I found a workaround on a debian mailing-list (can't find link right now...):

First mount your partition with hpmount (comes with sys-fs/hfsplusutils):
Code:
$ hpmount /dev/sda3
*** Warning: You are about to open '/dev/hda11' for writing ***
*** Do you really want to do that ? (y/n) *** y

hpmount does its magic and makes the partition write-accessible for linux again... now you can unmount and mount with the standard mount command:
Code:
$ hpumount
$  mount -o w -t hfsplus /dev/sda3 /mnt/fw

This has always worked for me...
