I have tried following some of the howtos for IRDA on ppc but it just doesn't work on my pismo.

Under kernel 2.4.24, I enabled ircomm-tty, ircomm, irda, macserial and loaded the modules. I emerged irda-utils. However,
Code:

irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s

dies with no error message to stdout, stderr, or /var/log/messages.

dmesg | grep tty
Code:

tty01 at 0xe181d000 (irq = 23) is a Z8530 ESCC (IrDA)

shows that ttyS1 is there.

I am trying to sync a Palm Vx with jpilot over irda because there is no serial port on the pismo to connect the cradle. It works fine using the Palm Desktop under Mac OS X. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Yes it is! I managed to get it working under kernel 2.4.24 using the (non-PPC or gentoo specific) docs that are floating around on the web. One thing the docs did not mention was that the permissions and group ownership of /dev/ircomm0 make or break irda. At least for syncing your Palm PDA. Anyway, if anyone wants step-by-step instructions, I'll post them.

That sounds like a gentoo specific issue there, Gentoo locks down device node access quite heavily, requiring groups to gain access ... and since devfs is used (even still in 2.6 where it's depreciated, yuck) it's not as simple as doing a chmod to the device node in question

I am trying to get LIRC working on my PISMO to learn the remote codes fro my sony RM-Y165 remote. This is partly for another project i have for Mythtv on a PC box but I need to get the remote codes for it and there are none listed at lirc.org.

Snowlander , can you please post the step by step instructions to getting lirc workign with built in IRDA. That would be most helpful.
