if you are having so much trouble with genkernel, why dont you compile sources by hand.....

Code:
make menuconfig

then
Code:
make vmlinux modules modules_install

???? is it that much trouble....

just my humble opinion

Some people don't know much about PPC hardware (as myself) so they may want to use genkernel to be sure everything works. And other people, that do know about ppc hardware, may just not be comfotable with compiling their own kernel.

if I configure the kernel by hand I allways get an compiler error too.

I use this ppc installation help:

Jump into the gentoo-ppc channel, and they can walk you through it. I am still extremely new, but I configured by hand via the guide, so if you have a question and see me in there ask me.
