situation is like this -> i'm running gentoo on my G4 with radeon graphics card and i'm doing a bit of kerneltuning... now since i don't use framebuffer stuff, i wanted to disable all this stuff in my kernel, but when i do this, my gentoo doesn't boot anymore...
so my question is, do mac's NEED framebuffer support or something..??

Gentoo probably IS booting, you just can't see the boot process or anything else for that matter because you do not have framebuffer support!

It says something about it not being neccesary to activate framebuffer support on an x86 system in the menuconfig help, so I guess that would point to that (some or all?) non-x86 systems need framebuffer to work?

no, you shouldn't. there's no native console/vga mode on macs, you'll want the framebuffer.
