i have a strange problem that seems to have to do with portage, emerging, and depcache

the thing is, whenever it trys to cache system dependancies, it spits out about 30 lines that say "/etc/init.d/depcache: Line 2: #: command not found"

i found a script of someone elses that searches through all the files in /etc/init.d/ and prints every line 2 to a file, and then i looked through it

coincidentily, every file has a comment, usually a copywrite or something, on line 2. this makes sense, but why would depcache look for a command on a line that is explicitely a comment.

The message you're getting seems to indicate that it (bash?) is trying to run "#". As you noticed, "#" occurs on the second line of every gentoo config.

I can't even begin to imagine why it's trying to execute a commented ("#") line. So long as it's executing the others, you're in good shape.
