Ok, I have successfuly emerged xorg-x11 but I have a few questions before I proceed.

1. Can I use xeasyconf to produce my xorg config? Are there any differences? How do I emerge it without emergeing xfree?

2. Once I have it all set up, is it just a case of adding doing 'rc-update add xdm default' to get X coming up on boot as normal.

Thanks

1. I just backed up my old XF86Config and after I emerged xorg, put it back in /etc/X11/XF86Config. Everything works fine. Since X.org is a fork of XFree86, everything should be the same in the config.

2. Yes. Xdm or kdm or gdm, whichever you choose.

Or entrance for that matter, which is a less well-known but very cool login manger that looks straight out of a science fiction movie. :)

you can emerge xeasyconf with emerge --nodeps xeasyconf

but .... you will want to make sure you meet the other dependancies for it (pciutils and dialog).

Also you will have to edit the Xeasyconf script itself as it appear to look for XFree86 directly (and not just X).

I made it work fine here by following this procedure.
