But when i try to boot from the complied kernel the screen goes blank and nothing happens..

Can somebody plz help me out.. ??
Please let me know what file(s) you want to take a look at, so that i will post the corresponding file(s)..

Maybe it is a video problem. Just guessing but you may not have the video configured correctly.

I'm pretty sure the video driver needs to be in the kernel and not a module.

I had a similar issue on a Sparcstation with an ATI video chip. It would load the kernel and the screen would go blank but it looked like it was still booting from the HD activity. I just had to enable the ati driver for it in the kernel and it started working.

I checked, I've complied the video card drivers in the kernel itself and not as a seprate module.
But i've also compiled some other video card driivers in the kernel as well.
Is it that only the drivers pertaining to your video card should be complied within the kernel ??

No, it shouldn't matter.

as a test you can add video=ofonly to the end of your kernel arguments for boot, which should get you working video, at least enough to figure out why it's not working with the native driver.

What else could it be related too... ??

Should I post the .config I am currently using ?

Are you sure you left the OF video option enabled in the kernel? Sounds like maybe not ...

hey! the kernel did boot :) :) :)

And I figured out what was the mistake. Actually it was not a mistake, it was a human error :)
and here the human was myself :)

The other day I added 'append="video=ofonly" ' to yaboot.conf BUT forgot to load the configuration by "mkofboot -v". *you have a rite to get mad at me on that *

I did "mkofboot -v" today and it worked wonders..

Many Thanks,
and sorry for the trouble caused...
Saket.
