I have IBM-DYLA-28100 HDD. When system starts (kernel 2.6.3) it working at Multiword DMA 2 mode

Code:

apple linux # hdparm -it /dev/hda

/dev/hda:

 Model=IBM-DYLA-28100, FwRev=YSAAA23H, SerialNo=VC0VC0E9180
 Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec Fixed DTR>10Mbs }
 RawCHS=15880/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=4
 BuffType=DualPortCache, BuffSize=459kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=off
 CurCHS=15880/16/63, CurSects=1065353460, LBA=yes, LBAsects=16007040
 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:240,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
 PIO modes:  pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4
 DMA modes:  sdma0 sdma1 sdma2 mdma0 mdma1 *mdma2
 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2
 AdvancedPM=yes: mode=0x80 (128)
 Drive conforms to: ATA-3 X3T10 2008D revision 1:  1 2 3

 * signifies the current active mode

 Timing buffered disk reads:   22 MB in  3.23 seconds =   6.81 MB/sec

when i try to set ultra-dma(0 1 2) mode performance extremely low! Is it normal?

Code:

apple linux # hdparm -v -d 1 -X udma2 /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 setting xfermode to 66 (UltraDMA mode2)
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 IO_support   =  0 (default 16-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 geometry     = 15880/16/63, sectors = 16007040, start = 0

apple linux # hdparm -t /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffered disk reads:    2 MB in 79.35 seconds =  25.81 kB/sec

Manufacturer hard drive secification:

I think it is a question of whether wallstreets have UDMA support and I think the answer is "no". Keep in mind they have a 5 year old+ ATA 33 channel. Play around with hdparm until you have a fast(er) HD, then add those changes to eg: rc.local

With a 12GB Toshiba drive in a Wallstreet I typically got 11.x MB/sec
