ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/featherlinux/bootusb.img

^ This boot floppy allows a computer to boot off usb even if this is not supported. I think it may only work with knoppix. However it may be possible to adapt the floppy. If this mirror goes down search for "featherlinux"; this is a knoppix remaster that fits into a 64mb usb stick.

^ This boot floppy allows you to boot from cdrom even if the motherboard doesn't support it.

I have used these 2 boot floppies to get my p90 to boot off usb and cdrom.

This is extremely rare knowledge.

the idea is:

- write .img to floppy (dd if=foo.img of=/dev/fd0)

- use that floppy to boot a featherlinux that is on the usb device.

Unfortunately it may have to be knoppix on the usb stick

This is what I thought the post was going to be about. But now that the img files were posted, why not just boot them using the bootloader? Seems plausible. Anyone know how?

Why does Knoppix have to be present on the USB stick? If the boot loader loads anything from USB it should load any bootable OS, be it Knoppix or Gentoo.

I don't know.

I just know that featherlinux is:

- knoppix based
- when you uncompact the tarball to the usb drive it doesn't give a normal root structure like /boot, /usr etc, but /KNOPPIX using cloop.

That's all I know
