I just finish installing gentoo and at the first boot, yaboot reports:

read error

when it tries to load the kernel.

i create my root filesystem as xfs, is this a problem ??

i compile the kernel with xfs support on it and copied vmlinux /, yaboot.conf its pointing to /vmlinux, the bootstrap partition is the #2 according to yaboot documentation.

any pointer ?

I don't know if this will help you, but I had similar problem on x86 using xfs as root partition. As you might know the fsck.xfs program is a dummy program, doing nothing, if you actually want to repair an xfs partition you need to use xfs_repair. My dificulty was that no matter what I did the boot process insisted on calling fsck.ext2->e2fsck. Of course this failed as the partition was xfs. My 'solution' was to have the symbolic link fsck.ext2 point to fsck.xfs instead of e2fsck. That has worked fine as I have no ext2 partitions.

You also might want to check the yaboot documentation, not sure if it supports reading from XFS or not ...
