The backlit keyboard on my 15" Aluminium PowerBook G4 1.25GHz does not want to work with Linux for me.

I have pbbuttonsd-0.5.11 emerged with the following relevent portion of my /etc/pbbuttonsd.conf file:

Code:
KBD_Brightness      = 28        ; initial keyboard illumination level
KBD_FadingSpeed     = 5         ; 0 = no smooth fading
KBD_AutoAdjust      = yes       ; only on Aluminum PowerBooks
KBD_IllumUpKey      = 68
KBD_IllumDownKey    = 67
KBD_IllumOnKey      = 66
KBD_Threshold       = 28        ; only on Aluminum PowerBooks

My kernel is ppc-development-sources-2.6.4. Is there a certain module that nees to be loaded or compiled in for the keyboard to work? I have enabled everything PowerBook related I can find.

I have installed Gentoo from scratch several times on this PowerBook and tried to get the keyboard to work each time without success. The keyboard lights up fine under Mac OS X so I know it isn't dead. I would like to hear how other people got this working. Thanks.

Hello,

I remember trying the lmu tarball indicated in the thread you mention.

However it did not work for me (Albook 15", 1.25 GHz) and someone on these fora told me I should just emerge lm-sensors. This emerge crashes for me :(

And I am still stuck at the same point. No backlit keyboard !

(if I had the choice, I would prefer sleep mode woring of direct rendering implemented before the keyboard backlit).

Regards,

Xavier

I compiled the following into my kernel and now the keyboard works!

Code:
Device Drivers --->
    I2C support --->
    <*> I2C device interface

Device Drivers --->
    I2C support --->
        I2C Hardware Bus Support --->
        <*> Powermac Keywest I2C interface

I had these options compiled as modules before but not loaded. I can never figure out what the names of modules are from menuconfig so I just compiled them into my kernel.

What's wonderful is that with Linux I can turn off autodimming of the keyboard which you can't do in OS X. I like my keyboard either at full brightness or off. OS X always puts it half brightness so it is impossible to read the keys (not that I even use OS X anymore :D).
