Hi,

I recently burned install-ppc-universal-2004.1.iso under MacOS 10.3.2 using both the Apple tools and xcdroast (installed from binaries on http://www.xcdroast.org) with a LaCie Firewire CDRW drive several times. I reboot and hold down alt/option to get the OpenFirmware boot menu. I chose the CD and click the arrow to boot. After a few seconds, the screen flashes black then returns to the boot menu. The only difference between the two screens is the colors are off on the buttons. They are a bit messed up. So the boot has essentially failed. I tried this with burning the CD multiple times (on different CDRs). Same sequence of events. Now, I dug out my old Gentoo 1.4final LiveCD which I have used to install Gentoo on this computer in the past without problem. It was burned with a different burner. I attempted to boot from this CD and the same events occured. I'm guessing MacOS 10.3.2 did something to my firmware, but that is as much of a hunch as I have. Gentoo has installed in the past without error on this machine but *not* while I had MacOS 10.3.2 installed (only 9.2). Any suggestions?

You might try holding down CMD-Option-O-F to get the OpenFirmware prompt, and then try typing boot cdrom.

You might also just try booting holding down 'C'. If it spits the CD out, just push it right back in again with no delay, for me it does this about two or three times before it actually boots off of it.
