Hi,

When i try to play MP3's with xmms, it often stops playing with the following error:
Code:

Couldn't open audio
Please check that:

Your soundcard is configured properly
You have the correct uitput plugin selected
No other program is blocking the soundcard

When i press "play" again, it will usually play the file.

Here's my configuration:
bondi blue imac (233 mhz rev.b 160MB Ram)
Kernel 2.6.4
xfree.org
xmms 1.2.10
Esound output plugin

lsmod tells me this:
Code:

Module                  Size  Used by
dmasound_pmac          92964  0
dmasound_core          22448  1 dmasound_pmac
soundcore              11940  1 dmasound_core
i2c_core               27360  1 dmasound_pmac

Any help would be much appreciated ;-)

I find the esound plugin works as well, and has better buffering than OSS.

Are you using the alsa plugin, by any chance?

This mchine is at work so i don't have acces to it in the weekend.. sorry for the delay.
The oss plugin seems to work, but is doesnt sound as good as the esound plugin.

As for the esound settings... I'm assuming those are in /etc/esd/esd.conf, so here it is:

Code:

[esd]
auto_spawn=1
spawn_options=-terminate -nobeeps -as 2
spawn_wait_ms=100

If i need to post more, please be a bit more specific because i don't know anything about esound, since i use alsa on all my x86 boxes. These is no alsa stuff on this mac.

Thanx a lot for all these responses... These forums are just about the best part of gentoo imho...
