I have some issues with my gentoo install, and i was wondering if there is a way i can change this back to a partiton that osx can read without loosing data on my os x boot partiton. it would be alot of trouble for me to back up, and i just need a way to reformat the second partition as hfs. thank you

I've done this several times. Boot from the gentoo cd. Fire up mac-fdisk. delete the gentoo partition ("d 10"). Write the new partition of type "Apple_HFS" and reboot.

In OSX, open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility

Now select the greyed out Gentoo partition on the left, and choose 'erase.'

Done!

If this doesn't work, post here.
