I own an iBook G3 800 and emerged mplayer, but whenever I want to play some kind of videos, it happens that it start to drop a lot of frames, showing about 1-2 frame per second. With other videos this doesn't happen. I think the trouble comes with divX ones.
But I can't understand WHY, just because top shows that it only uses about 10-15% of CPU.
I had to emerge gxine, wich is not very stable, and it does play ok. But I don't like gxine, it hungs very often.
What happens?

This is just a thought - I remember seeing Mplayer under OS X do something I think was "rebuilding index file for media" which fixed some movies that were behaving similar to what you are describing. Maybe the commandline version has a trigger like that?

Try an other output plugin. Mplayer works fine on my G3 ibook.

I think I had this problem when using gmplayer, but never with just mplayer.

Maybe try this? from "man mplayer":

mplayer
Code:
     -forceidx
Force rebuilding of INDEX.  Useful for files with broken  index  (desyncs,  etc).
Seeking  will  be possible.  You can fix the index permanently with MEncoder (see
              the documentation).
NOTE: You can only use this option if the underlying media supports seeking (i.e.
              not with stdin, pipe, etc).

-forceidx does not work.
Changing -vo for all the possible values in video output doesn't work also.
The films are showing at very few frames/second. CPU is still only at 15% while playing, and gxine plays them ok.
I can't understand what is happenning. And it does happen with a lot of films.
