I saw in the #gentoo-ppc irc chat that GCC 3.3.3pre2004 can work on PPC. Has anyone tried it? I'd give it a shot but I'm having a problem with emerge system. Since I had to reinstall because emerge -U b0rked my system. :( Hopefully I can try it later today.

i've been using gcc-3.3.3-r3 on ppc for the last few months and just a few days ago i switched it to gcc-3.4 and till now, everything flies & compiles away...
so if you ask me, i'd say it's perfectly ok to use those gcc versions on ppc although they're masked, so you'll have to unmask them if you want to try them...

Nice one.

Well then I might as well switch to gcc-3.4. Do you have to upgrade glibc? Right now I"m using the stable version of glibc.

gcc-3.4.0-r2 needs at least glibc-2.3.2-r3 as far as i can see in the ebuild...
i personally am fully ~ppc so i have glibc-2.3.3_pre20040420...

Sweet.

I also heard you have to include something in the CFLAGS? I forget what it was but it was in the motd in the irc chat.

-fno-strict-aliasing

I have a set of experimental stages:

gcc-3.4.0-r2
glibc-2.3.3_pre20040420
binutils .15-r3

with NPTL enabled. Available soon.

I'll have to try that out. All I have to do is emerge gcc, glibc and binutils then do a emerge -e world right?
