I have a few possibly related sound problems. The sound works in some applications, kde system sounds, noatun, mp3blaster. But, it doest not work under xmms, with any output plugin selected, ALSA, OSS, esound or arts.

After following the alsa guide on the site, as well as doing what a few other posts suggested, I haven't been able to solve the problem.

I have a 15" pbook alu, and I have compiled alsa modules in the kernel. Using kernel ppc-development-sources-2.6.5_rc2-r1

Second problem, none of my mixers seem to work, they show pcm and master controls, but have no effect when i move them up or down.

And finally, my builtin speakers have never worked, i have to use headphones or plugin external speakers.

I don't know why some things work and others don't. I get no errors with modules, here is my lsmod output:
Code:

dmasound_core          20368  0

Quite the opposite happens here: I no longer have the system beep. Audio (both input and output) works fine from any application I can think of with two exceptions: the system beep which is nowhere to be heard, and XEmacs. To be more precise, XEmacs beeps happily away through sound daemons (such as ESD) but it does not say a thing with native sound. The system beep is completely silent, just as XEmacs' native sound.

I have compiled in PC Speaker support (CONFIG_INPUT_PCSPKR) into the kernel but this one does nto make any difference (maybe it does for you).

Running kernel 2.6.5, OSS compatibility enabled under ALSA.
