The most recent version of the cpufreq patch is now here. This should now work for all iBooks and PowerBooks released in April 2004.

If you already have the 20040610 or 20040616 patch working, don't bother with this new patch, it is only necessary if you have a 12" or 17" PB, which were not recognised by the old patch.

Any progress getting the patch into the kernel mainline (or at least a gentoo ebuild with the patch incorporated...)? I suppose I could write the latter, assuming it doesn't already exist...

I suspect the patch will make it into 2.6.8. I'll update this thread when I have more info.

Okay, it's in, as of the 2.6.7-bk6 snapshot. The official diff is here.

I think there is still some potential for more power saving here by using a different method to effectively slow the CPU more (using ICTC). We'll see.

I'm using the 2.6.7 gentoo development sources. Can I patch it using the kernel.org snapshot (2.6.7-bk7) or do I need to go download the vanilla development line and then patch it to bring it to 2.6.7-bk7?

I'm assuming the easiest way is to patch my current gentoo-dev-sources kernel with the patch and just forget bringing the whole kernel up to 2.6.7-bk7.

Thanks for writing this handy-dandy little piece of software.

You're welcome :)

As long as the patch applies cleanly, everything should be fine. Probably at this point the easiest thing is still to patch with the 20040619a patch from my website (linked to above). Using a full bk patch might conflict with gentoo patches, and give you a lot of rejected hunks.

AFAICS, the patch has made its way into Linus' tree.

Those patches have been in the kernel for quite some time now. Do you have a cpu frequency daemon running (like cpufreqd) and CPU frequency changing support built into your kernel?

Check your dmesg, is there a line about the CPU Freqency scaler? What are the reported frequencies?
