Greetings,

I'm following along in the install documentation for gentoo on a beige g3, but I've run into a bit of a snag... (First of all, I couldn't get past a black screen with an image of Tux in the upper-left corner with the 2004.1 universal CD, but that's a different problem altogether).

Reading through some similar complaints, I downloaded the 1.2 iso (gentoo-ppc-1.2-r1.iso) and used it for my install. A little more success.

I have currently gotten to the point of creating my partitions. I've got...8 for some reason:

Code:

/dev/hda1     Apple_partition_map
/dev/hda2     Apple_Driver_ATA
/dev/hda3     Apple_Driver_ATA
/dev/hda4     Apple_UNIX_SVR2
/dev/hda5     Apple_UNIX_SVR2
/dev/hda6     Apple_free
/dev/hda7     Apple_HFS
/dev/hda8     Apple_free

mac-fdisk will not let me delete the first three (perhaps for my own benefit, since I'm really not too sure what I'm doing here). hda4 is ear-marked for swap, hda5 is the bulk of the drive for gentoo. hda7 is my apple partition with bootx sitting on it. The free slices... Are small and annoying, but not a problem at this point.

So, I've created these partitions and written them out (w in mac-fdisk) and quit. I then used "mke2fs -j /dev/hda5" without problems.

On to the next step in the documentation: "makeswap /dev/hda4"
and I get the following error: "sh: mkswap: no command found"
Umm... What do I do? What is the problem? Help?

Rather long-winded for a short problem sentence, I know. My thanks for any help you can provide.[/code]

check wether /sbin/mkswap exists.

the 1.2 livecd isn't really supported.

on the 2004.1 try to pass video=ofonly to the kernel
