I've read that /boot cannot be reiser, but considering that ppc doesn't have /boot as a seperate partition (it resides in /) would it be okay to make / reiserfs when /boot is under the / partition?

sorry, i haven't any non-x86 experiance, but afiak reiserfs is supported for /boot, but grub may have troubles accessing some file when the partition is mounted without the "noleaf" option - reiser stores small files inside the directory tree, AFAIK. but I might be totally wrong ;-)

Just FYI, the PPC systems have to use yaboot for their bootloader - GRUB doesn't play nice with Open Firmware, and is pretty much only used on x86 systems. I myself use ReiserFS (not v4) on my root partition and it works fine - I haven't had any problems with it at all. It's even on a Maxtor drive. (I like living life on the edge...)

I never had any luck booting off of resierfs. In the end I created a small ext3 boot partition and a reiser partition for everything else. Works fine.

Mounting your root / on a ReiserFS partition, without a separate partition for /boot, works just fine.
(i use ReiserFS for /, and ext3 for /home on an iBook)

You can use reiser for boot, but I think you have to faff about with initial ram disks to get the kernel driver running so it can read the reiser partition or something.
