Just installed my first system and I am having problems. I used the kernel config here:

http://ppcconfdb.sourceforge.net/conf/PowerBook_Aluminium_G4_1GHz_15_radeon-9600/kernel/2.6.5_rc2-benh1_14-Apr-2004/2.6.5_rc2-benh1_config_14-Apr-2004

And I'm getting the following:

-code]
kernel BUG in grow_buffers at fs/buffer.c:1189!
Oops: Exception in kernel mode, sig:5 [#1]
.....
.....
TASK = c08af740[1] 'swapper' Last syscall: 6
.....
.....
.....
.....
Call trace:

..... hfs_mdb_get...
..... hfs_fill_super...
..... get_bdev...

..... do_kern_mount...
..... do_add_mount...
..... do_mount...
..... sys_mount...
..... do_mount_root...
..... mount_block_root...
..... mount_root...
..... prepare_namespace...
..... init
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
[/code]

What are my options? Can I just boot the liveCD and recompile? If so, what should I add/leave out? I will keep the .config available for now but I'm not sure how to transport it here. Anyways, please help. Thanks, Jeremy

looks like an hfs related bug. Try to upgrade to 2.6.6, or disable mounting your hfs partitions in /etc/fstab before solving this...

I don't have any and I'm not mounting any HFS partitions. The only one I can think of is the boot partition setup by yaboot. fstab only has swap and root being mounted, along with cdrom and proc, but nothing HFS related. I know I compiled HFS support into my kernel. Maybe yaboot did this when I ran mkofboot -v to install my yaboot.conf file? Got anymore ideas? Thanks, Jeremy

I got everything working by copying the config from the LiveCD and modifying slightly. Word of advice, good idea to do if you are new to the PPC architecture and hardware. Laters, Jeremy

P.S. - It's in /proc/config.gz
