I want to install vim. I tried to emerge all of the different versions of vim as well as gvim, and all of them exit with the same error. What should I do?

I had the same problem recently. I did an emerge sync a day later and it worked o.k. Still I'm experiencing some portage weirdness. I still can't emerge aumix, and some X programs are asking for Xorg when I already have xfree installed.
