i posted this same question before, and i ppoligize to the (6) people that have looked at it before.

on old macs, onesthat did not have a built in modem, they had a strange port that had a telephone next to it. i assume that would eb acalled a "modem" port.

i have an external modem (usrobotics 56k sportster) that is specificall for macintoshes, that plugs into tnat port.

BUT WHAT IS THE DEVICE CALLED AND IS IT SET UP LIKE A NORMAL SERIAL PORT?

for everybodies information, i do not have any serial devices on the computer ( are serial devices for ppc?)

i cannot beleive this has not come up before, so i hope someone can help me

Looking around for info on this subject. Please post if you've found anything useful. I'll do the same if I find anymore.

They should just be "serial" ports, I'd try the pmac zilog driver and see if it's recognised.

Those are indeed serial ports, I used a normal modem with them once: I connected it using this kind of cable and it worked flawlessly. In terms of drivers indeed pmac zilog did the trick for me (on a Powermac 7200).

It could be a RS442 serial port - differentional version of RS232 wich used in most modems. In that case you need to use a special converter to get it work.
