okay, i really need some help with this.

i've installed Parted (emerge parted) and then got the HFS+ Parted patch from http://xilun.nerim.net/parted-1.6.11-hfs.tar.gz and followed the instruction for the patch.

just to check if i did it properly, here is exactly what i did:

in /parted-1.6.11-hfs i did
Code:
./configure

make

make check

make install

make clean

and then i tried to run Parted and it said "No Implementation: Support for checking hfs+ file systems is not implemented yet."

so could anyone tell me if i've properly applied the patch? how can i check if i did the patch right?

any help on this would be very, very appreciated. :)

there is probably a much simpler and more beatiful way to do this, but you could just boot up on the 2004.x cd, and use parted on there (have not done it myself, but its been mentioned that the version on the cd has the patch)

i was hoping there would be a simpler way to do this, but i just tried the 2004.0 LiveCD yesterday. here's exactly what i typed then:

Code:
parted /dev/hda

print

resize 7 24000 70000   <- (something similar to that, based on the [i]print[/i] output.)

then i got a message like:

Quote:
hfs+ support is not yet implemented

do i have to specifically run the patched version of Parted on the LiveCD, or what? i don't get why this isnt' working for me... i've seen people here on the forums saying that even the 1.4 LiveCDs have the patched version of parted. :(

also, i only want to edit my hfs+ partitions, so i thought it would be easy enough just to just use Parted (patched version) from my Gentoo install... do i have to unmount the partitions i want to edit??

and installing the patch, did i run those commands from the right directory? someone in #gentoo-ppc mentioned that a patch is usually applied to source code... and looking at the commands that i mentioed above it doesn't look like i went anywhere near the Parted source code... :(

ii've never used Parted before and this patch is really confusing me now... if anyone who's used this can help me out... i would really appreciate it. :)

What you seem to have done here is actually compiled and installed a new parted. You did not go near a patch, just downloaded the whole application and built it.

Now, your problem is likely to come from the fact that you have two parted binaries on your system, and that the old one is in the search path before the new thing. Typically a `make install' would install binaries in /usr/local/bin (/usr/local/sbin for parted actually) which typically appears later than /usr/bin (or /usr/sbin for parted). Try a
Code:
whereis parted

to see if you have more than one executable, then
Code:
which parted

to see which one is the one that launches when you type the name at the shell prompt.

thanks bruda. :)

i'll try those things you mentioned to see if i can get it sorted out...

on a semi-releated subject, i ended up having to format my HFS+ partitions, the version of Parted on the LiveCD just wouldnt' work with it... but then after a format and re-made the HFS+ partitions it seemed to work fine. oh well...
