I am trying to boot 2004.1 on a G3 DT 266. But the kernel that's on the CD refuses to boot. I have no problem with 2004.0, but 2004.1 keeps refusing to boot. My kernel parameters in BootX are as follows:

video=atyfb:vmode:14,cmode 16
root=/dev/ram0
ramdisk_size=32000
init=/linuxrc
cdroot

I only get as far as to the penguin in the upper left corner - but after that there's nothing.

I want to make a gentoo livecd common to new/old ppc nachines, which I had succeeded in 1.4rc system, but a month has past being in vain. Lately Mr. lu_zero, who coded gcloop, kindly let me know me in mail to use "catalyst". The guide documents are incomplete and this work will cost lots of trials, but in this process I found some tips. (If someone knows how to make gentoo livecd, please show it to me.)

I guess Mr. mox2k's G3 DT 266 shows only Tux and no messages on the monitor.
In livecd 2004.1 the kernel G4's .config has commented out two options on ATI video. I installed system by the cd into an old iMac and on that system recompiled the kernel. After the command
# gzcat /proc/config.gz > .config
and editting .config about ATI (cannot remember in detail now, sorry). Then using the self-made kernel, livecd 2004.1 and BootX, my G3 DT 266 seemed to boot up normally. I mainly work on iMac now, so not yet have tried installation to G3/DT but I think that there may be little problem.

My kernel parameters in BootX are as follows:

ramdisk_size=32000

root=/dev/ram0
init=linuxrc (or /linuxrc)
pagesos
looptype=gcloop
cdroot

I do not understand "pagesos".

I called in mind the options, but ambiguouslly, "CONFIG_FB_ATY", "CONFIG_FB_ATY128", "CONFIG_ATY_CT" and so on.

Ok, that's a good hint. Altho one has tio be very careful with this approach. It's especially important to have _all_ necessary options built into the kernel (_very_, _very_ important are bmac [ethernet] and hfs - without these two _built into_ the kernel this does not make any sense) BECAUSE the modules on the CD don't match the kernel ;)
