Hi,

I just installed firefox 0.9 (I am using it right now) and it was complaining
about the java plugin:
Code:
bash-2.05b$ firefox
No running windows found
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /opt/blackdown-jre-1.3.1/plugin/ppc/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so [/opt/blackdown-jre-1.3.1/plugin/ppc/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: _ZTV16nsQueryInterface]
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** ExtensionManager:checkForMismatches: no access privileges to application directory!
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /opt/blackdown-jre-1.3.1/plugin/ppc/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so [/opt/blackdown-jre-1.3.1/plugin/ppc/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: _ZTV16nsQueryInterface]
*** loading the extensions datasource

This javaplugin was working perfectly well with mozilla 1.6r1 and I had
also the ibm-jre-bin and ibm-jdk-bin emerged and installed without a
problem, all those have been living happilly together for months.

I thougth that may be I needed to re-emerge the blackdown-jre as
I have changed gcc and glibc, applications sometime complain if I don't
recompile them (libpng for example). To my surprise (I didn't remember
it like that from the last time) blackdown-jre is a binary package and it
seems it doesn't have a java-plugin anymore! In fact emerge create a
link in the /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins directory to
/opt/blackdown-jre-1.3.1/plugin/ppc/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so and the
subdirectory mozilla doesn't even exist under ppc!

While it was only java 1.3.1 it was still working with a lot of the pages I
visit. And how come I had it from a previous emerging and not anymore
now? I am bit confused.

Can someone clarify that situation to me? I know things have moved since
we have the ibm-java packages but I thougth we still had a plugin.

Heya,

I had the same problem, I did the following:

Code:
 emerge -v blackdown-jdk-1.4.2_rc1.ebuild

When that was done:

Code:
 emerge -v blackdown-jre-1.4.2_rc1.ebuild

No more issues since then.

I suppose you are on x86 gcc! Here on ppc we don't have the
latest offering from blackdown for java >1.3.1 . But thanks all
the same, thanks to that I found that the plugin is now in the jdk,
I was sure it was in the jre. At least emerging the jre will try to
create a link to a non-existant file.

Cheers,
Francois

Unfortunately, the only Java plugin is Blackdown 1.3.1, which is really sad. Portage now defaults to ibm-jre-bin-1.4.1, which contains no java plugin. The 1.3.1 blackdown plugin will not work with many of the java applets on the web...I hope this gets resolved soon and blackdown comes with a 1.5 build...This is a longshot dream, I suppose :(
