|I have an eMac 700MHz with 512 MB Ram 200GB HDD, and DVDRW. It's kind of a frankenstein of two bad machines. I could up the ram to 1024, but am unsure if that's necessary at this point.
It is going to run:
What kernel would be best for this?
It's almost through emerging system right now.
There won't be any GUI, so no worries about sound or graphics. Just needs a useable console. I would like to be able to dial into the machine, but I'm unsure if the eMac modem is upported.
I'm looking for stability first, and speed second. By stable I mean hundreds of DAYS of uptime. The last mail server was up 417 days before a long power-outage forced us to shut it down. I'd like to have one that strong. If possible I'm going to back up the mysql, mail, and squirrelmail databases to DVD every night. Should be a hoot to setup.
