Well at one point in time my only internet connection was via my cell phone @ 14.4 kbps. I don't know if anyone remembers back in the day when that was highspeed. Any way back to why I am posted. I found myself with a window of oportunity. I would have a highspeed internet connection for about 4 days before going on a six month deployment overseas with no connection to the internet. I needed some way to download all the source files for as many .ebuilds as i could withing this 96 hour period. So being a VERY bad gentooist I wrote this little tid bit:

Code:

#!/bin/bash

for EBUILD in `find /usr/portage/ -type f -name *.ebuild`
        do
        emerge -f "$EBUILD"
        done
exit 0

Now yes this does pose several problems but it is easy and you can leave it to do it's job. Now I would never recommend doing this but if you are stuck without a connection for awhile... I spent almost a year without syncing agian. Anyways someone may find a use for this at some point. Most of you could probably write this in your sleep but hey not everyone can.

please send all flames to /dev/null

PS - when emerge -f fails to connect it keeps retrying...

I do something similar.

Not for the whole tree, but when i goto a big LAN party (with no internet) i'll grab the entire games tree, onto my file server.

Though we've got nearly a dozen gentoo boxes that use it, and it remembes updates from time to time, so it's not too bad.
