woudn't questions on certain parts help more then just use someone's config?
No offense meant, i understand that a working config is handy for learning purposes, but i do think that asking questions about parts you don't understand will help out more.

greetings,

no offense taken man, i do agree completely. so here im off asking some specific questions

so mcpu is telling what processor type the system is right?
and mabi does what?
fno strict aliasing does what?
mtune does what? shoudl i use it?

could i just not do anything to the use flags or would that be worse, if i want to use kde and not gnome but want to use the gdm display manager is that ok?
what should i turn off and on for that, i dont need to worry about sound right cause the pmg5 doesnt have sound support yet.

here is mine:

Code:

USE="some opts..."
CHOST="powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-mtune=970 -O3 -pipe -fsigned-char -mabi=altivec"
CXXFLAGS="-mtune=970 -O3 -pipe -fsigned-char -mabi=altivec"
MAKEOPTS="-j3" (I have two CPUs)

It is necessary to use mtune instead of mcpu at the moment, or you won't get a running system due to some issues with this option.
