In your yaboot.conf you will need to append the following line in order to boot from an external screen:
Code:
append="video=aty128fb:crt:1,lcd:0"

Change the aty128fb part to whichever framebuffer you are using, e.g. radeonfb.

hth,
disk

EDIT: You can also append it right on the yaboot cli while booting:
Instead of linux type linux apppend="video=aty128fb:crt:1,lcd:0" and for this session it will boot on the external screen.

In case you did not solve all of it it already, in all the distributions I have seen but Gentoo the utility that deals with Mac partitions is pdisk, not mac-fdisk (same functionality, not sure whether it is the same program). Failing this, there is always parted.

mac-fdisk is just the new name for pdisk, they are essentially the same.

This is the config for GRUB, an x86-only bootloader. On the Mac, we are dealing with a bootloader named yaboot, its configuration usually resides in /etc/yaboot.conf.
Do I understand you correctly that your powerbook's lcd screen is broken and that you have attached an external monitor to the powerbook's VGA-out which you want to use? It would also be important to know what kind of powerbook you have in order to determine the graphic card in it and thus the framebufer driver needed.

Sorry, I messed this one up, it is supposed to be without the append.

AFAIK the Titanium runs a ATI AGP 4x Mobility Radeon, so you will have to use the radeonfb. (If you have DVI-out then you have the newer model with a Mobility Radeon 7500)

Plug in your monitor, boot the powerbook and *immediately* close the lid. (It would help here if you had a USB keyboard). With the lid closed the card will auto-default onto the VGA-out.

Quickly grepping through radeonfb.c sources does not show a crt: option like in the aty128fb driver. Instead, there is a mirror option you might try:
Code:
linux video=mirror

hope that helps,
disk

video=mirror itself doesn't work
but maybe i should write somewhere before radeonfb ?
