Okay - so I'm slowly working through a complete Gentoo install on my sniny new [hugs it] Aluminum powerbook. I have the latest kernel (2.6.7-r6, I believe) with the cpufreq patch to run at full speed, I have xorg configured beautifully, (and FAST) with a nice xfce4 desktop. However, there are a couple of nagging issues.

I'm trying to get alsa sound going, and I have all the relevant bits of the kernel compiled as modules. Alsa 0.9.8 seemed pretty convinced that I have an AWACS sound chip, however, I've had some trouble getting it going. I can get sound out of the headphone jack, but it seems to be independent of any alsamixer sound levels. The "Headphone Detection" control looks relevant, but any attempts to set it through amixer fail (seems to change fine, but running "amixer" again shows no change), and toggling it crashes gnome-alsamixer. There doesn't seem to be any PCM control, which is odd.

Further complicating things is the fact I'm trying to get a udev system going, which up until now has worked pretty well. I AM using the device tarball, but I don't know if I need to at this point - any tips in that direction would be wonderful.

I also can't get pbuttonsd to illuminate my keyboard. Display works fine, but pbbuttonsd just doesn't respond to those keys in any meaningful way. Screen backlight, eject, both work fine.

Any ideas?

I'll give those modules a try - I think I'm using snd_powermac right now (I'm in OSX, so I can't check at the moment)

I'll give those a shot and report on the results.

Damn.
Code:
# modprobe dmasound_pmac
FATAL: Error inserting dmasound_pmac [snip]: No such device

Well - snd_powermac loads, and dmasound_pmac doesn't. But with snd_powermac, the mixer is useless. BAH, I say!
