Hi

Trying to dualboot with macosx 10.3 and gentoo linux for ppc.
My boyfriend installed gentoo but then it won't let you select mac os x, just boots straight into gentoo.
then he installed mac os x it boots straight into that and can't use bootloader to select.

We basically have a situation where each one keeps overwriting bootloader or something, only allowing to boot into most recently installed even though they are on separate partitions and yaboot is setup presumably correctly.

Is this a known problem? Is it something specific to this particular model of ibook (500mhz dual usb snow ibook) or something he was doing wrong setting up possibly? Firmware issue even?

Any help is appreciated

This is probably a stupid question, but i can't think of anything else from what you say. It looks like yaboot didn't install correctly...
You did run "ybin -v" as root after configuring "/etc/yaboot.conf", right? And it didn't gave any errors at all?
If you first installed gentoo, then afterwards mac os x, then you probably have to reset the nvram, and you can do this by pressing simultaneously "alt/option", "command", "p" and "r" when switching the iBook on. Keep those buttons pressed, and you'll hear it chime... still keep the buttons pressed untill you've heard it chime for 3 times in total, then the nvram is reset, and you should see yaboot upon booting.

Thanks for the help - can't yet ask my boyfriend (as he's not here and its his ibook that we had the problem on) but will make sure to verify if he did that or not.
If he did do that then i'll post back saying so.
