I found another post with the same problem, but the solution did not work for me. Here is the post:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=166910&highlight=bootx+install

I burned the ISO at 8X after verifying the md5. I use these arguements with Bootx:
root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc initrd-size=32000 cdroot
I'm using the G4 kernel which is in my Linux Kernels folder and the image which is on the CD. I've also tried placing the image in the Linux Kernel folder, but same result.
As I try to boot into the installer from MacOS, I see some text on the left side of the screen, then Tux shows up in the upper left, but the rest of the screen is black. After some seconds, the CDROM is accessed, but no output is on the screen.

Any ideas?

What kernel options do you have besides G4? I noticed your sig mentions Gentoo 1.4 - if you're already running Gentoo on the machine and you keep your profiles and ebuilds up to date, you're already running a 2004.x system.

My profile should be updated. That info is old. I'm actually a new system.
