Hello,

I have searched through the forums and documentation for a solution to this, if it has been covered before somewhere else, I apologize.

I first DL'd the Minimal LiveCD 2004.1, first at the boot prompt it would not load a G3 kernel, gave me an error, corrupt file system/ directory not found, (I did open up the CD and look in the boot folder and there is no G3 file, like there is for G4, G5, etc, is that right?) But it would load a G4 kernel. It would load up until I get a kernel panic, rebooting in 180 secs. Found a post that said to DL Minimal Live CD 2004.0.

I then tried to install with this one, still no G3 boot option, but it does load up G4 and I can get to the point of setting up networking by using adsl-start, I have Bellsouth DSL, but it will not connect. Also in the tutorial it says to use net-setup, there is no net-setup on the disc, tha i can find atleast.

So I then DL'd the Universal LiveCD 2004.1, and it does the same thing as the minimal 2004.1 CD mentioned above.

I am getting really frustrated, and am at wits end.

I know there could probably be 1000 things that could be the issue, but what could some of the obvious be, or less obvious ;)

Does it simply not install on a G3 Pismo Laptop?

Thanks for help in advance,
hairlessape

You should be able to make this work. You might need to edit your NIC in /etc/conf.d/net to run DHCP instead of Static. I think the default is 192.168.0.50 or something like that. You probably want to setup your NIC as DHCP and let your modem assign it. I'm not real familiar with DSL, I use cable, but this is how mine works. I managed to get the Lombard working after poking at things here and there for awhile. I think my problems were mostly in the lack of knowledge on yaboot and partitioning a mac.

Just realized you and I already talked about this in another topic in which I also remembered to mention the 'modprobe bmac' command. :-)

Anyway, how's the setup coming?

Yeah, after I posted this I read into the other thread and it seemed that he was having the same problem as I.

I gave up on it, I'm going to try again when the 2004.2 comes out.

Sorry to ask for help and then not follow through.

It's fine. It's there for the next guy who comes along to find it exactly when he wants it.
