Ok, Im working on setting up gentoo from stage1 on an iMac 350. got all the why through everthing till it got time to reboot, then i got:

VFS: Cannot open roout device "hda3" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
<0> Rebooting in 180 seconds

now after searching the boards i found that i had forgoten to set Device Drivers -> ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support -> Probe internal ATA/100 (Kauai) first in the kernel config, so i booted from the liveCD, mounted all my my drive, chrooted to it, and changed the kernel config, then tried to compile. Everything goes fine till i get to drivers/ide/ppc/pmac.o, after which it gives me ERROR 1 and stops compiling. im using the 2.6.7-gentoo-r7 kernel sources, and im wondering if im gona have to restart everythign from scratch to fix this or not. I would hope i can just recopile the kernel from the same sources that I DL'd after i completed stage3, since they are still on my harddrive, but i dont know.

edit: when i change the config to not include the probe internal ATA/100, it compiles fine, but of course it wont boot
