So I emerge ppc-development-sources as per the stage 3 installtion without any apparent errors...

...then I type

Code:
emerge --pretend ppc-development-sources

and the ppc taunts me with:

Code:
emerge [  R   ] sys-kernel/ppc-development-sources-2.6.1-r1

I ran
Code:
emerge --update system
and got several of emerge errors for things like kde, xorg-x11, and the kernel mentioned above when i tried emerging them separately...

why is the system asking me to reemerge everything immediately after it is emerged? Should i start from scratch, yet again.

"R" doesn't mean it has to be re-emerged. It means it is already installed and would be replaced if you continue.

if you want something more modern, do emerge gentoo-dev-sources as ppc-development-sources is no more.

Thank you for the clarification...local gentoo people misinformed my already spent mind.

So on that note, I should updrage the kernel to gentoo-dev-sources for the better...in the meantime, would it be wise for me to go ahead and finish up the GRP installation using the iso's, then update the kernel and subsequently update the system after all is said and done?

Does that fly?

Is there an FAQ or a wiki where ppc-specific things like this can be posted? I figured this out a while ago, but it was pretty confusing before that - aside from these forums, is there anywhere to look? Sort of a PPC-specific release notes or late-breaking news thing?

Yeah, like a sticky, reverse-order news thread for PPC. That would be sweet.
