I am fairly new to Gentoo on PPC, but not new to linux. I just ripped some cd's to both mp3 and ogg formats using jack, but when I play them they seem to play faster than comparably ripped files on a windows box (i.e. they sound speeded up).

Anyone know what might be causing this? I've tried turning off VBR in jack, but it seems to default to it when using the lame or oggenc encoders.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm totally sure the sampling-rate gets messed up somewhere... (Or at least the header telling the sampling-rate)

I'm using abcde so I can't tell you where...

Have fun*

That's what it looks like - the problem still exists even with abcde. I wonder if it has something to do with the DAE (Digital Audio Extraction), since I'm sure that there's not an MPC audio cable running from the CD-ROM to the motherboard.

Has anyone else seen sampling problems from CD's with Powerbooks? I noticed that the problem exists even when playing CD's.

Thanks again ! 8)

Yeah, normally cdda2wav works just fine, but sometimes I only get noise (sounds like wrong endianness) for selected tracks. Using cdparanoia (slower...) helps then.
But I honestly wouldn't know what would mess up the sampling-rate... Audio-CDs are pretty standardised in that regard, eh?

Only thing I know is that the soundchips don't support other rates than 44.1kHz.

Have fun*
