I was wondering what the story was regarding flash for the PPC, I know netscape-flash is only x86 right now, and gplflash only works for flash version 4 and lower, but I was wondering why? I can't offer any immense help to any ongoing projects beyond some basic testing, but I'd be more then happy to do what I can.

Why? Macromedia is very hush-hush about the mysterious inner workings of Flash (particularly the newer bits) and have not released any of their stuff as open source. As such, all work for platforms OTHER than those they release binaries for has do be done via reverse-engineering. There is no current release of Macromedia flash for any architecture other than x86. I think AMD64 can use the x86 binary, but I'm not sure of the specifics. I think the best open source Flash effort out there right now is GPLFlash, so if you were to sniff around there, you might be able to lend a hand. Doesn't seem to be much of a community going there, so I'm not sure where you could get started.

Also, there is a petition to ask Macromedia to port Flash to the Linux/PPC platform (should not be too hard...). It has been signed by some 1200 people already and can be found here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/fla4lppc/

In the meantime you can sort of run gflashplayer/x86 inside your Mozilla/Firefox browser with qemu as described in this thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=117774
It works for most flash files but does not work with links (i.e. no site navigation possible) and has problems with sound.

If you want to participate in an open-source project you might also want to look into swfdec:

Have fun,
