Hi,
i've gotten gentoo up and running on my g4, generally quite happy with it although it's been quite a challenge. I'm new to gentoo and ppc and have realized that the mandrake years have spoiled me, but installing and configuring has been fun if a little difficult...

One problem I haven't been able to solve with browsing the forums and googling; gtk apps look ugly, it seems that the default fonts are of an incompatible size or something.I'm not sure where to configure this and also have few other problems which may or may not be related... any help appreciated.

- All gtk uis look weird, big and ugly, firefox (page rendering is fine), thunderbird, amsn, xcdroast etc. gtk-demo shows the exact same big, ugly font as firefox.

- firefox & thunderbird won't show ui icons or png's in pages

- when trying to emerge k3b it fails on gtkmm (dependency)

- I'm running kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r2 and radeon hardware-accelerated drivers, I have both gtk and gtk2 in my make.conf

will post any additional system info if asked,
cheers,
ga

Hi,

the firefox problems can be fixed by editing this file:

.phoenix/default/51omlkiq.slt/chrome/userChrome.css

Here is mine as an example:

Code:

* {
        font-size: 8pt !important;
        font-family: sans !important;
}

You can search firefox's website for more information.

GTK Apps:
Try to install x11-themes/gtk-theme-switch, run it with "switch2" and look for a good font. This will generate a .gtkrc-2.0 file in your home directory. You can also generate this file manualy: (just an example...)

Code:

include "/usr/share/themes/Gentoo/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

style "user-font"
{
  font_name="Sans 8"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"

include "/home/markus/.gtkrc.mine"

Thanks Corsair,
both solutions worked perfectly, things look better now. For anyone looking at this post for a solution to their problems; since 0.9 the firefox configuration directory lies in .mozilla so userChrome.css should be at:
.mozilla/firefox/default.kyr/chrome/userChrome.css

p.s. if anyone knows a solution to the png problem, firefox and thunderbird won't show anay png's, please let me know.

cheers,
ga
