I'm sure this is a well answered question but I cannot seem to get the search terms right for finding it. I remember awhile ago seeing something to check for link status on bootup so as to not hang eth0 while doing dhcp. When I read this I did not have linux on a laptop and I really didn't care.... but now that I do have linux on a laptop I want to find it again :lol:

If anyone can point me to a post about it or tell me what needs to be done I would appreciate it.

I think you're searching for "ifplugd", this can do what you want. I read about it, but never used it (yet) myself though...
