I don't remember but if Pismo has an ATI card, you could try atitvout. I've never seen it tried on a Mac but might be worth a try.

Thank you for the tip. I tried to emerge atitvout, but it failed because of a dependency on LRMI, "a library for calling real mode BIOS routines under Linux." That does not sound like good news for a powerbook so I gave up.
Am I right, or should I try anyway?

From the atitvout site:
Quote:
Notice: No, there is no chance to get this tool to work on PPC. It's x86-only.

:cry:

Currently there is no way to get TV-out to work since ATI won't release any specs because this might enable people to bypass the Macrovision protection on the chipsets (and I'm sure they would be breaking their contracts if this happened).
atitvout only works through a trick by sending the right signals to the standardized VESA BIOS interface which then enables TV-out on the ATI card. Since we don't have VESA on PPC but use Open Firmware, this won't work.

The only way that I figured out that you could use is to hook up your TV to the VGA-out which works fine on my Pismo under Linux.

If you're from the States, you will need a VGA to composite or a VGA to S-Video converter. You could build your own (http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/vga2rgbs.html) but this will require solid electronics know-how and soldering skills :)
Or you will have to buy some kind of adapter like this one:
http://www.grandtec.com/ultimateEZ.htm

If you're from Europe your TV set will most likely have a SCART interface which makes things a lot easier since the RGB signals used on both interfaces are identical, you only need to change the sync signal. If you want a DIY-converter check out these links:
* http://www.nexusuk.org/projects/vga2scart/index.php (just 4 resistors and a transistor, also has necessary modelines for X11)
* http://www.idiots.org.uk/vga_rgb_scart/ (if your SCART socket supports RGB video (check your TV manual) use this simple cable, you will only need some rewiring and a resistor)
* http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/vga2tv/cindex.html

There are also lots of online stores offering such products on the net, but I can't offer you any advice on whom you can trust there....

Thank you for the very complete information. I guess I will have to
keep a Mac OS partition around until I learn to solder. :(
