I've been struggling through this for the past few days, reading over this forum and a few other resources....But here is what I'm trying to do:

Get ALSA working properly. ALSA is set up, says it finds no cards, but the snd-powermac module does autoload. Attempting to use the mixer generates a very loud distorting noise.

Get Bootsplash working. Nothing has worked so far using the 2.6.7-r11 sources, I always get the error regarding no signature found (I believe that is the one), and nothing loads. I have used bootsplash_initrd instead of the manual process. Yes, I've read the sticky at the top of the form. I also tried using the 2.6.8-r2 sources only to find out that the patch isn't compatible (yet).

I did get my ATi 9000 working in XFree...by manually compiling the sources from the XFree site (ver 4.4.0). Though it does seem that the kernel modules do work for DRI.....I've been getting 800 - 1000 fps on glxgears.

I'm open to suggestions regarding the kernel version, as long as it is in the 2.6 tree.

Specs:
PowerBook Ti 867
ATi Mobility 9000 32MB
1GB RAM
ext3 file system

I have been getting a weird error message in dmesg before anything else loads (IN from bad port 64 at c010211c -- about two 'pages' of this) along with ALSA saying no sound cards found......etc.

The PPCConfDB site hasn't been of much use.

About your bootsplash on your Tibook, I have it working on my Tibook with similiar specs, with a gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7-r11 kernel. Maybe this post will be of some help https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1351016&highlight=#1351016

I seem to be getting somewhere, it is now instead of saying invalid signature telling me the depth is incorrect (15).

Would it be possible for you to post a gzip'ed theme? Using gThumb and resize doesn't seem to work, gimp is a little broken atm.

What options did you use for saving the jpgs in gThumb?

In gThumb select image then select resize. You have to rename the images after you have resize them. Make sure the images are in the same place as stated in the config file and have the same name! And you must be in root for this.
