After unsucessfully trying to install gentoo-ppc on my powerbook i finally gave up and tried to reinstall osx. to my demise when i run the os x installation cd it is no longer seeing any hard drive at all. I ran mac-fdisk and deleted all the gentoo partitions. still nothing. there is one partition and it is the master partition table. my computer is useless now. any help?

you could try something like a knoppix disc to go in and remake the partition table
DBAN (dariks boot and nuke) will completely obliterate all data on the harddrive, from there you could re de the partition table. WARNING!!! DBAN is a dangerous disc, use wisely

Boot from the os x cd, start the disk utility app, select the greyed out hard disk on the left (click on it once), and click either 'erase' (simple) or 'partition' (advanced partitioning). This will reformat the disc and start anew.

Unless I am misunderstanding your problem, in which case I apologize.
