Hi All!

I just downloaded the LiveCD and it works fine on my ibook g4.

So here is my problem:

I would like to have wlan on my ibook, but the airport extreme card is really too expensive, as I don't really need it, but it would be nice to have it.

So I read in this forum that some dlink adapters work fine with gentoo. So do you think it's possible to do the following:

When I need wlan access I just put in the gentoo live cd and boot from there. Are the dlink adapters correctly found from the live cd at startup. If not is it possible to add the right drivers (maybe with boot scripts to load the drivers each time from my hd) after booting?

Thank you very much
Christoph

You mean like not installing Gentoo on your apple, but using the cd only when you need it.
SHAME ON YOU

(just kidding)

Seriously now, cards with the Prism chip (802,11b) and Atheros chip (802.11g) work fine

But i really dont know if these modules are installed on the live CD.

Why don't you use Knoppix live cd? It's a full working live system. I think it is better for your occasion.

Or better, make a full Gentoo instalation

Well I heard that the knoppix cd for Mac is still under heavy development. But I am installing gentoo on a seperate partition at the moment.

Can you tell me a few usb dongles that use the prism chipset or is there anywhere a list?

Christoph

PS: Hope this is formatted ok. Really not easy to use the forum with links :-)
