umm, if reboot or halt does not do it

(i had problems where it would not let ME umount my parittions and then it would say that IT could not umount the partitions, and it would stall)

you can always press ctrl-command-power button and it will reboot the machine (unclean reboot, but it works.) and

its better for the machine than a remove of battery (as removing the battery kills the clock i think.)

if you do not want to do a fsck then when you do this the last time (when you are finished installing), use

/sbin/shutdown -fr now

Type:
Code:
init 6

thats the 'coolest' way... ;-)

Halt does not work on my powerbook with the LiveCD, but reboot does... I also got this problems with " /mnt/gentoo is busy, cannot unmount"

that is the same error i get on my ibook (r2.2) g3, except that neither halt, reboot, or shutdown (in either -h or -r) does anything. have not tried switching to reboot or halt init runlevel, and since ive already installed, its not too big of a deal :)

please type mount, also I'd be interesting to see which mounts exactly fail to unmount? ensure that you're out of jail and at / before unmounting your gentoo partition.

fishdog:
im not doing that anymore, but what failed to umount was /mnt/gentoo (i also had a partition mounted at /mnt/gentoo/usr, but that one umounts fine) and yes, i was all out, and at /... i had even logged out and back in. nothing :)

but i ended up giving it a hard reboot, and everything turned out alright.
