Has anyone gotten any P2P program to work on LinuxPPC? I've tried Emule and that doesn't work. Is there a reason why P2P programs won't work on the LinuxPPC platform? I'd love to help out and get something working.

Try aMule or xMule.

Last I tried aMule still had some endianness problem which prevented it from running properly, but xMule should run fine. mldonkey is another working alternative.

There's also giFT with the openft, gnutella and fasttrack plugins which works very nicely. Working GUIs for it are apollon (for KDE), giftoxic and giftui.

As for all the other P2P networks like BT, Soulseek, DC, hotline etc. - I haven't encountered any problems emerging the respective ebuilds.

mldonkey works very well.
Multiple protocol support (bittorrent, edonkey, fasttrack, gnutella, gnutella2 etc), multiple front ends (GUI, web).

Code:
emerge net-p2p/mldonkey

amule 2.0rc5 does appear to work on ppc. It's masked, so you need to emerge it manually, but it does finally work.

I tried getting the ebuild to work. But it's only masked for X86 and so on. So I've decided to install the binary. And it's not working.....

As i said, its masked, you need to emerge it manually:
Code:
cd /usr/portage/net-p2p/amule/
emerge amule-2.0rc5-whatever.ebuild

and, as GhePeU said, you're missing wxGTK. The emerge will pull that down as a dependancy, but you may need to put a USE="-gtk2" before emerge in the code above

unless you try new ebuild (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59672)

Sweet. I've got aMule installed. First I did it manually then I saw the ebuild and just reinstalled using the ebuild. Anyway now I can't connect to any server. It's like one thing after another. :) It keeps timing out. And the server list returns null. I'm also behind a SMC wifi router if that helps.[/code]

No idea on that one I'm afraid. The earlier RCs used to do stuff like that on ppc, but rc5 connects and downloads fine for me
