Hello. I've run across this a few times but never figured out the answer until now. I was trying to use CUPS to print to a shared Windows printer, and in my /var/log/cups/error_log, I kept on getting messages that look like this:
Code:
ERRDOS - ERRbadaccess opening remote file _stdin_

If I tried to print from the command line (using lpr or whatever), "_stdin_" would just be replaced with the name of the file I was trying to print.

Well, after a bit of Googling, I found this reference, which says that the Windows printer must be set up to use the spooler, NOT printing directly to the port. You can check this by navigating to the printer, right-click and select "Properties," and click on the "Advanced" tab (this is in Win2k, anyway). From there, there will be a radio button with the options "Print directly to port" or "Spool documents." Viola!
