Hi!
I've tried to update from benh 2.6.3 to the gentoo-dev-2.6.7-r9 sources, but I can't get sleep to work.

When I close the iBook it crashes, the backlight stays on with a blank console with a blinking courser.

the relevant .config:
Code:

fum@sabrina fum $ cat /usr/src/linux-2.6.7-gentoo-r9/.config|grep PMAC
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_PMAC=y
CONFIG_PPC_PMAC=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_PMAC=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_PMAC_ATA100FIRST=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PMAC=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_PMAC_BLINK=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PMAC_AUTO=y
CONFIG_PMAC_PBOOK=y
CONFIG_PMAC_APM_EMU=y
CONFIG_PMAC_BACKLIGHT=y
CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG=y
# CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG_CONSOLE is not set
CONFIG_DMASOUND_PMAC=m
fum@sabrina fum $ cat /usr/src/linux-2.6.7-gentoo-r9/.config|grep ADB
CONFIG_ADB=y
CONFIG_ADB_CUDA=y
CONFIG_ADB_PMU=y
CONFIG_ADB_MACIO=y
CONFIG_INPUT_ADBHID=y

any ideas?

Michi

I haven't been able to get sleep to work for me with 2.6.7_r?, but according to this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=203580ruben was able to. I messaged him and he said

Yep, i have everything working on an iBook G3 800Mhz. You can get my .config here: http://www.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/~ruben/.config. I'm not very fond of modules, so everything is compiled in. (the config was used with 2.6.7-r6, compiled with gcc-3.3.3_pre20040408-r1, it doesn't include support for airport, nor for firewire, sound is ALSA)

I hope you get it working. For sleep (and the volume, brightness buttons,..), you also need to run pbbuttonsd, but i guess you know that. Good luck.

Ruben

I couldn't find 2.6.7-r6 to compile, so I'm trying 2.6.8_r2.

Good luck!

Thanks to servobf and ruben I finally got suspend to work on my 600Mhz G3 iBook with the 2.6.7-r11 kernel.
Using rubens .config, and a bit of trial and error I found out that turning off 'Symmetric multi-processing support' and 'Preemptible Kernel' in the 'Platform options' section of the kernel does the trick.

Nice you got it working....
In case you're new to compiling linux kernels.. Symmetric MultiProcessing support is only needed for dual processor machines (or pentium4s with hyperthreading). Pre-emptive kernel should give better desktop performance, but AFAIK this option is not yet stable on PPC.
